The reason Darwin Nunez is not named in the Liverpool squad to face PSV has been revealed.
Liverpool take on PSV in their last league phase game of the UEFA Champions League tonight, with kick-off set for 8pm GMT.
Liverpool coach Arne Slot named a youthful travelling squad to take on the Eredivisie stalwarts, with the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Ryan Gravenberch, and many more getting some well-deserved rest amid all the fixtures Liverpool have.
Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, Wataru Endo, Harvey Elliott, and Federico Chiesa were notable members of the senior first-team squad that travelled alongside a raft of academy players.
Nunez, who started Liverpool’s last game from the bench, was expected to start against PSV on Wednesday night.
However, surprisingly, he was not named in the starting XI on the bench, with Slot choosing youngster Jayden Danns to lead the line.
With his future still a matter of debate, Nunez’s absence from the starting XI may have sparked some concerns about a possible exit from the club.
However, the reason for his omission has now been revealed.
Why Darwin Nunez missed PSV clash
According to reliable journalist James Pearce, Darwin Nunez will miss the game due to illness.
